I don't have a problem training to win races (and I don't win that many anyway) but there are some races you just know before you enter that you don't stand a chance. For example its not much good being a sprinter if you don't have any legs. But it doesn't stop you being the fastest thing on two wheels. As far as music goes - I have no legs...
